James Mursell has been making Windsor chairs for over twelve years, having been introduced to them by veteran teacher Jack Hill, on a course at West Dean. James subsequently studied with Mike Dunbar, one of America's leading experts on Windsor chairs, and six years ago began to make chairs full time.

The first course was run at The Windsor Workshop in 2004, and since then they have been running at roughly two per month. James also teaches chairmaking at West Dean College several times each year. He writes a monthly column for Good Woodworking, and has had several articles printed in Furniture & Cabinet Making. James is a member of The Sussex Guild, and exhibits regularly at their shows. He can also be found at several 'wood shows' each year promoting The Windsor Workshop.

Prior to becoming a full time chairmaker, James was a commercial fruit grower for fifteen years, and before that worked for Tate & Lyle in America, after graduating with a degree in Botany from Cambridge.

In his spare time he sails his dinghy in Chichester Harbour, and takes his daughters to riding shows around the county.

James is married to Louise, and they have two daughters.
